EU/ENG - The passing of Professor Salvatore Biasco deprives the Italian academic and cultural community of one of its most influential economists, a figure whose work maintained a profound and continuous dialogue with active politics over recent decades.

A distinguished pupil of Paolo Sylos Labini who later earned his doctorate under the supervision of Maurice Dobb at the University of Cambridge, Professor Biasco possessed the rare intellectual merit of weaving his own theses into a fertile synthesis with the high theories of Nicholas Kaldor and Hyman Minsky. This rigorous scholarly pursuit continued through his tenure as a Full Professor at Sapienza University of Rome and remained undiminished until his final months, during which he continued to provide authoritative contributions to the media and academic publications.

In his capacity as a Member of Parliament, he was the soul of a transformative era for the social-democratic movement, both in Italy and across Europe, consistently animating an innovative approach to economic and social policy.

A steadfast member of our Board since its inception, Professor Biasco pioneered innovative research perspectives on "euro-economies." He held our portal’s commitment to high-level dissemination and scenario-based analysis in high regard, fundamentally shaping our editorial direction toward a social Europe dedicated to the service of citizens and workers alike. He was a man of immense culture, characterized by a discreet demeanor, a generous spirit, and a proactive dedication to both idealist vision and concrete application.

His absence leaves an immeasurable void in our hearts and in our work.

May the earth rest lightly upon him.
