The EU is imposing duties on electric vehicles from China after trade talks fail

EN - After a lengthy procedural process, the five-year duties imposed by the European Union on Chinese electric cars imported into the EU have been in force since the end of October 2024. The implementing regulation has been published, permanently triggering the trade tariffs decreed on 4 July. This will trigger retroactive taxes for up to three months.

The European Commission stressed that 'the battery-electric car supply chain in China benefits from unfair subsidies that are causing a threat of economic damage to EU producers'. European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis remarked: "We are defending the European industrial base".

The Commission also indicates that "in parallel, the EU and China continue to work to find alternative solutions compatible with the World Trade Organization that would be effective in addressing the problems identified by the investigation". Brussels "also remains open to negotiating price commitments with individual exporters, as permitted by EU and WTO rules".

Scattano così imposte retroattive fino a tre mesi.
