European Commission wants larger EU budget

Il commissario all'Economia "chiede di avere contributi finanziari nazionali stabili introducendo nuove risorse proprie“.

EU/EN - The communication on the EU budget was presented by the Commissioner for Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis, in Strasbourg on the sidelines of the February plenary session of the European Parliament. “It is clear that in the coming years we will have to face important challenges”, evidently new challenges and renewed challenges, the Commissioner underlined and specified how “a broad agreement on ‘what’ to finance, or on the investment needs for the coming years, is a fundamental prerequisite for agreeing on ‘how’ to finance it“. The priorities for the Budget are those already indicated by the Commission at the beginning of its mandate: such as defense and support for Ukraine, enlargement, investments in advanced technological sectors, cohesion, research, asylum policies, agriculture and food security

It will be necessary to “ensure the reimbursement of NextGenerationEU and, at the same time, have stable national financial contributions by introducing new own resources“. The executive has planned a tour of the European Union member states throughout 2025 by Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin.
